Langkawi, Malaysia
The Datai Langkawi is a luxurious destination resort nestled in the heart of an ancient rainforest and overlooking the tranquil Datai Bay: awarded by National Geographic as one of the 'Top Ten Beaches in the World.
The luxury iconic property enchants with mesmerising nature, visionary architecture, a wealth of wildlife and the highest levels of service. The resort offers a combination of rooms and suites in the main building overlooking the rainforest; villas immersed in the forest itself, some with pools, and pool villas adjacent to the beach, all paying homage to traditional Malaysian cultures and exotic surrounding areas.
The Datai Langkawi offers a diverse choice of dining experiences inspired by culinary traditions from around the world. These are played out in unique settings, many with spectacular views that enhance the serenity of the natural environment.
Leisure facilities include two swimming pools, an award winning 18-hole golf course designed by golf legend Ernie Els and a brand new Nature Centre.
The resort's lush tropical rainforest embraces each of the 121 rooms, suites and villas with private verandas and breathtaking views of the lush tropical rainforest, some with the breathtaking vista of the Andaman Sea with Tarutao Island on the horizon.
You can choose to laze by the beautiful adult pool, walk along the soft sand of the long curving Datai Bay beach, tone your body, mind and soul in The Health Club and then stroll up to the delightful Boutique for some light shopping. And all with the most incredible array of plant life and wildlife on your doorstep.
The Datai Langkawi Adult Pool is situated at the main building with a spectacular view of the rainforest canopy, the Andaman Sea and Tarutao island beyond on the horizon. Its loungers under the iconic white umbrellas are in an ideal spot for relaxing with refreshments throughout the day. Adult guests aged 16 and over are welcome to use this pool.
As unspoilt as the ancient rainforest that fringes its shore, the Datai Bay's secluded pocket of paradise has earned it the title of one of National Geographic's Top 10 Beaches in the world. The white-sand beach curves gently in a protective crescent moon around the bay to create a stretch of sand that is 1.5 kilometres long and 30 metres wide at normal tide.
The warm yet refreshing turquoise waters of the Andaman Sea make for excellent swimming conditions, as well as the opportunity to participate in a variety of water sports including snorkeling, sea kayaking, windsurfing, catamarans and sailing boats.
The lush foliage around the resort is home to some of the world's most fascinating animals including the Long-tailed Macaque, Dusky Langur, Sunda Colugo, flying lizard, Tokay Gecko and more. There are plentiful butterfly species to see if you take a stroll in the Butterfly Garden and if you are lucky you will spot The Datai Langkawi's Great Hornbill pair flying over the rainforest canopy.
The resort's nature-centric walks and activities are led by the world-renowned Resident Naturalist Irshad Mobarak and his team of passionate naturalists and marine biologists and begin from The Nature Centre, near the beach. This unique open-air building is inspired by a tribal bamboo longhouse and houses a Laboratory. When not in the field, Irshad and his team talk about birds, biogeography, conservation and other elements of island natural history. This is where guests will be inspired by the delicate, symbiotic relationship between animals, plants and man.
For those guests who just like to have fun, The Datai Langkawi has a family pool, bicycles and the world-famous The Els Club Teluk Datai golf course. Tennis courts are also available at The Els Club Teluk Datai.
The cooking classes at The Datai Langkawi are bound to delight guests looking for delicious culinary experiences. Join Malay, Thai and Indian resident chefs at The Dapur (Malay for 'kitchen'). The hands-on cooking session begins with a walk to the new permaculture garden to select fresh ingredients, followed by the cooking session and ends with lunch (including your sumptuous new creation) accompanied with a specially paired glass of wine. You will also be presented with a personalised certificate of accomplishment.
